Most people actually neglect their refrigerator ice and water dispenser.  It’s not done deliberately of course, but, every one loves there ice water or the occasional ‘Scotch-on-the-Rocks’.  So we buy a refrigerator with a water & ice maker in it, most modern day refrigerators come with a filter equipped to take chemicals and contaminates out of the water supply.  So we need to budget in order to replace them as needed, recommended four times a year, sometimes twice a year and definitely at least once a year.  The water filters are not universal and must be ordered by brand, and every appliance manufacturer uses many different styles unique to certain models.  With that being said they can get quite expensive.  After you replace the filter there is some more steps needed to complete the quarterly task, just read on.  I also have pictures of the most common water filter in refrigerator on the market and you can even purchase replacement filters right from the links below.

Reset your water filter indicator light – Most new refrigerators come equipped with an indicator light that notifies you when it is time to change your water filter. This light does not automatically reset when you change your water filter. Here is a list of refrigerator manufacturers and how to reset the indicator light.

Amana Refrigerators – Press and hold the Auto and Dispenser Lock buttons until the water filter status indicator light flashes.

Frigidaire Refrigerators – Press and Hold the Reset Button Until the Indicator Light Flashes.

GE General Electric Refrigerators – Press and Hold the Reset Button for around 8 Seconds.

HotPoint Refrigerators – Press and Hold the Reset Button for around 8 Seconds.

Jenn-Air Refrigerators – Press and Hold The Light and Lock Buttons until the Water Filter light flashes.

Kitchen Aid Refrigerators – Press and Release the Light Button 5 times Quickly.

Maytag Refrigerators – Press and Hold The Light and Lock Buttons until the Water Filter light flashes.

Samsung Refrigerators – Press and Hold the Ice Type and Child Lock Buttons at the same time for 3 seconds.

Whirlpool Refrigerators – Press and Release the Light Button 5 times Quickly.

I was called out to this refrigerator (Kitchen Aid Model KSSC42QTS00) due the mullion being scorched (burnt) along the outside.  This is well over a  $5,000 refrigerator, so this was very unattractive.  This is a simple fix even though I’m never satisfied with the results.  I would expect the engineers to come up with something a little more impressive for the repair, none-the-less, it’s a simple fix.  But there is another root cause to the problem which must be fixed as well.  There is normally a small amount of heat generated…..
